ID help needed please

I found this old knife inside an old chair. It was kind of built into the old fabric. Not like dropped but more sewn in kind of. I cant for the life of me find what it is. The blade has as best as i can tell Japan stamped on it. It appears to be pretty old and very thin kind of like a woman's knife or maybe a small fish knife not quite sure what to make of it. It is very well made has a good strong blade. the handle is wooden. and well worn. I have a few pictures of it here. I often find old knives and swords and odd things in my line of work hidden away in old houses in the walls, under floorboards etc. I can usually identify them but not this time. I am unsure if the knife is even worth my time. but I find something interesting about it.

Looks like a Japanese tourist-type letter opener. I have one too, nice wooden scabbard to match the handle. Google "Japanese letter opener" and click images.
 
Thanks for the replies. I had a feeling it had a scabbard by the shape of the handle. For a letter opener its very sharp. I am searching letter openers now to see if I can find it
