I'd like to Asp you a question about the Sneaky Pete...

I really am terrible at doing comparison threads, so please excuse the neophytism.

Though I've owned both, I've never had both at the same time until this morning.

Pictures, as you know, never tell the full story. The photos portray very subtle differences in size, but in reality, the differences are quite the opposite. The SP is much heavier, wider, hand filling, and feels a bit more reliable. Where the Asp feels very light, fast in hand, a bit more stabby, and made for smaller, more detailed work. If you have big meat hooks like me, and enjoy the look and feel of big beastly blades, I'd recommend the SP over the Asp. Check that, I recommend picking up both and seeing the differences first hand.

Both are 5/32" CPM154.

These last two show subtle differences, but in hand, they are far from subtle, IMO and in my hands.

Very informative post Joe! never knew they were so close in size, at least at a cursory glance. Been jonesing for a SP, but I've just rescinded rest of my spending money for the year as I've just bought an engagement ring, so I'll just live vicariously through your photos :D

Engagement ring!?! Congrats on finding someone special, that's awesome to hear brother.

Nice, accurate write up sir -- my sentiments on these two blades echo your findings. Of note, a 5/32 non swedged asp can be used a lot like a kephart (food for thought) IMO.

Duder:

Very informative comparison & terrific photos. I also have larger hands and find the Sneaky Pete to fit like a glove. However there is something sweet about holding an Asp. It tends to feel more delicate and a bit more refined, and comes out of a sheath very light & quick. Not sure why but in some respects it reminds me of the difference between carrying a .45 auto vs a 9mm. If you need / want to carry one all day, you'll probably find the Asp more comfortable. I was intrigued when Andy said that he switched from carrying a Sneaky Pete to an Asp. Having held both, now I know why. +1 for owning both.

I agree with everything you said. There is something very sweet about the Asp. It's growing on me. It's handle is a little more curvy and sexy.
Lacewood is pretty cool in person too.

Oh yes, Lacewood indeed. I have a stainless Sneaky Pete dressed in Lace.....quite nice. The highlights are amazing when given a little mineral oil to quench its thirst.

Do you have the one with a very thin swedge?! The SP in the fiddlebackforge.com pics?!?!

Very helpful post. Some of the photos make it seem that these two are very similar in size. The Asp I have is a tapered on 1/8th and I could almost forget I have it in my hand. Would be cool to see similar comparison photos that include the big sneaky.

Good eye on the red stapler all; OfficeSpace is a favorite of mine and I only saw it fitting that I have red swingline on my home office desk!

Bush.Hacker: Both knives are really nice; the Asp is a versatile design and from the standpoint of bushcrafting, I have been using another non-swedged 1/8"" SFT one much like a kephart for the past few weeks; its quite nice! The big sneaky is a total sleeper -- no one has really caught on to using them, but it is my go-to profile for do-everything, one knife situations (I now have three ;)). If you don't need the belly of a hunter and like spear point profiles, a 5/32" SFT big sneaky will do you nicely.
