I'd Like to See a Middle-Weight Chitlangi

I bought an 18" Chitlangi. Very fast, and sinisterly beautiful. Weighs 18-oz.

Wanted a heavier one, so bought a 21-incher, but this one weighs 31-oz.

I'm wondering if one of those skillful Kamis up there in Bir Gorkha might consider making a 21" Chitlangi in a middle-weight range, say, 24-oz or so.

Although I like the beefy Khuks, I think my preferences are now starting to settle in a bit. I like the 18-inchers a lot, probably my favorite length, and the ones I have that run some 20-oz a piece seems a good weight for that size. But there are times I'd like something in the 20-21" length. But with the exception of the Kobra, the other Khuks immediately jump to right at 2-lbs when they go to 20-21". For me, that weight is more appropriate to a lighter weight sword, and seems like a bit too much of a good thing on something less than two feet long overall.

Kinda looks like I might want to consider the 20" Sirupati, but they tend to overshoot the weight mark as compared to what I'm looking for.

My 21" Gelbu Special feels light. I'll weigh it when I get home.
It's fullered kind of like a Chitlangi.
That may be close to the "inbetweener" you're looking for.

I've come to discover that there are variances in weight between blades of the same length. I have an 18" Chitlangi that weighs in at about 18 oz. However, there are others on the forum that have 18" Chits that are quite a bit heavier. I guess the best thing to do next time is let Uncle Bill know what weight range you are looking for.

Spelling mistooks dun on porpoise.

For those who don't want to go there this Chitlangi weighs in at 25 ounces and is about 21 5/8" oal.:D ;)
Did I say this one is fast?:D And the blade is thin, but not toooo thin!!!!

Now that is just about exactly what I am looking for.

So, they DO exist. I'll just keep my eyes open and maybe ask Uncle Bill to try to dig one out for me when he returns.

Don,
I noticed that there was mention already of the Gelbu Special above. Actually its a good one to consider. They tend to run in the same weight range your looking for. Kumar has been doing a good job on these as of late. As with any khuk it can depend on a lot of things as to what it is going to turn out like (phase of the moon, Kami, how the Kami is feeling, etc.). Just ask Uncle Bill. He might be able to find one to your specks. If not give the GS a try. They are not as fancy as the Chitlangis, but they are good users.

Don there's not much I can add that the original post doesn't cover, but this is one of my very favorite kukri's needless to say. It travels with me when we go off somewhere.
In spite of its length it's not unwieldy and can be used in very close quarters.
The day I tested it I had barely enough room to move so my swing was very limited. That's why I said it cuts like a much heavier kukri.
Someone explained about the mass being accelerated was less so it could generate more speed which made up for the mass.

Hey, Hoghead;

Actually, amigo, I already have an 18" Gelbu, and a Kumar one at that. It is a magnificent piece, and my favorite of the nine Khuks that have found their way into my home. As far as Gelbus go, it's a bit on the light side at 20-oz compared to what others have posted, but that seems to be an ideal weight for that size, at least for me.

And, all things considered, I am extremely happy with it, along with my 18" Sirupati (also 20-oz, and also another Kumar piece).

A 24-oz 21" Chitlangi is just my way of trying to find another "ideal" Khuk for its size (grin).

Thanks for recommending the Gelbu though. It's always nice to hear someone else think as highly of something you do.
