It is a fake military khukuri....BEWARE!
A modern Indian khukuri, usually dressed up to look old and marked with fake military stamps.
Sellers usually want top dollar for these because of the stamping.
Yours has not been aged. It looks alot newer than 1960's
Unless you are able to buy it for around $20-$30 dollars maximum , i would'nt even bother.
Actually, i would'nt bother supporting scam artist's for any price.

Please read this linked article and give the great folks at IKRHS.com a visit.
They will be able to tell you much more.

Thank you for the reply. very helpful. :)

the current price is just below $20, but it's an auction, so you never know. I might go ahead and get it anyway, as my first kukri. Even a dressed-up military kukri must make a decent tool, right? Or is the steel crap as well? :S

That depends.
Some of these khukuri are decently heat treated, some are not.
Some will take an edge and hold it decently, some will not.
You are taking a chance. It may well be suitable as a cheap beater khukuri, just as some Windlass Steel Craft's are.

But why support scam artistry?
