Looks like a standard issue M9 bayonet, I believe they are made by Ontario Knives though I may be incorrect. The hole in the blade is to be used in conjunction with the scabbard as a wire cutter.

So THAT's what these are meant for - my father has this old bayonet back from his days in service, i always wondered what that hole was all about but never got around to asking him. I'm being OT, but thanks for your clarification !!!

Looking at the knife a little closer it seems I was wrong in my first post. It is not an M9 the hole in the blade of the M9 has a rounder shape to it. This knife seems to be very similar in shape to an Ak-47 bayonet. Probably a souvenir this soldier picked up somewhere.

Looks like James just beat me too it

Yup, it's the bayonet for one of the many thousands of AK's found littering the countryside. The trooper looks like he's trying to figure out, "why won't this thing cut?"

Definitely an Ak bayonet...

Its looks to be a russian ak-47 bayonet. The nice cheap hardened steel ones. Looks like he is admiraing, or trying to figure out what the blade cutout is for (wire cutter). Man he looks young, I must be getting old. He was probably in school, or diapers when I was in Desert shield/Storm (wow, I sure hope not!).

its a ak bayonet we found 100000s of them (march 2 2003 -feb 6 2004)
you can see in the pic near his left hand the top of the sheath
