The talk of chaga and hoof fungus reminded me of these Mystery Blobs I found a couple of months ago on an abandoned forest road in Western NC. Between 3 and 5 inches across. Any idea?

Looks like an Earth Star Fungus. There are many different kinds. Perhaps someone familiar with the fungus in your area could identify it more precisely.

I saw something unusual in June, down in Byfield, Queensland, blobs on the ground. Perfectly round and clear, about the size of large marbles. I didn't take a picture. They even were round vertically, not flattened. They fell apart quickly if squashed.

Something natural, like a fungus or frog eggs? Or something spread on the ground purposefully, a fertilizer or lawn care product perhaps?

Thank you, Bob. That looks like it. I've seen similar growths hidden alongside trails, but never so obvious and well-developed.
