A school bus driver hears kids on his bus parked outside at his home in the fog and dark. He goes out to catch them but it turns out the kids are vampires or something, and they 'get' him.

Any ideas? I thought it was the tv mini-series Salem's Lot, but I just watched it and there's no such scene. Maybe it was in the novel but not the movie, or perhaps I watched a different edit?

A couple movies come to mind involving child vampires....

Let the Right one it (2008)
Let Me In (2010)
Children of the Night (1991)

but I'm not sure which applies [been a long time since I watched TV]

Thanks bobo. What's so odd is that I visually recall it from the '79 original... Seems I created the imagery when reading the novel.

I had the same issue when re-watching Aliens. There was a scene I could have sworn was in the movie, but wasn't there when I re-watched it at a later time. I spent years trying to remember where that scene was from, and ended up thinking I might have imagined the whole thing.

Find out, after finally buying it in Blue-Ray, there really was an additional scene, but it was dropped from certain versions.

That was one creepy minute long scene.

I have not yet read or watched Salem's Lot, how do the original and remake stack up against the book?

(Books are usually better so I'm assuming it holds true here as well)

The book is a classic for sure. The first movie does a fair job with it, mostly because it was a 3+ hour miniseries.
The second movie is OK too. In some ways it has more depth than the old movie - introducing more characters and emphasizing a different aspect of the story.

Don't overlook the original pre-novel story either. It's in Skeleton Crew or one of his other early short story compilations.
