Idaho Made - backup?

Hi all,

My current CRK user lineup, is a 2009 Umnum (old pivot, no lbs) and a 2010 Bloodwood Lg. Sebenza. I love that the Lg. Sebenza doesn't have "Idaho Made" - I like having that clear satin Ti near the ricasso.

It's still in very good condition even though I EDC it; now I'm considering getting a newer Bloodwood just so that I can hang on to the non-Idaho Made as a backup, since these are more rare.

Am I crazy?

Am also thinking of looking for another old pivot, no lbs Umnum so that I can have one as a backup.

Not a thing wrong with having multiples... One to shit in and one to cover it up with. I have spent several thousand on sebenza smalls this year, have them sent to two different relatives so no one will know how many I have coming in (i work away from the house). If I had them stacked to the ceiling in my spare bedroom I'd still want another one. Kicker is I carry the first one I ever bought. No wife or kids but I still have a mortage and future retirement?
Nothing crazy at all about it

Not crazy at all. If I had the money I would 100% buy multiples, just not in the budget right now.:grumpy:

You can go that way or look for a no Idaho Made if that is what you like. It might take some time or it could be easy. There is no telling with searches. Just put up a want ad and keep scanning the sales forum.

Roger that guys. Hehe, I guess I'm not so crazy - or you guys are as crazy as I am.

Thought about this today - I don't mind the handles getting used and scuffed up, but it's the blade that I want to be able to use for 1, 2, 3 decades. I just yesterday thought of this - CRK does blade replacements, right, and sends you the old blade? I was thinking of maybe getting one or two new blades fitted ($135 ea.) for my non-Idaho Made Sebenza, and have them in "reserve" while I use my current blade, sharpen it, etc. - and if / when time comes for the blade to be replaced, I have one ready right away, already all fitted to the lock, bushing thickness, etc.

What do you guys think?

You should get many years out of a blade, I wouldn't be too concerned about having a back up on hand. Having a new blade fitted to an existing knife only takes a few weeks and if you have another sebenza you'd be covered for that period.

I share your love of non IM sebenzas, I had a couple fitted with damascus blades. It wasn't why I did it but that created a back up blade situation.

Nothing crazy about that at all, unless I'm just your kind of crazy :)
I had 3 Umnum's with the old pivot and original jimping just for that reason. I'm down to two now, unfortunately had to sell one to raise funds for something else- you guys know how it is.

I absolutely prefer the pre IM stamped knives. Although I've grown used to seeing it I wish it'd never been put on any CRK.

Yes. ;)
But then I'm crazy too.
hope this helps.

PS: I got used to that IM, doesn't bother me anymore.

Haha thanks y'all.

I'm thinking of sending in my Bloodwood Lg. Seb, and my o.g. Umnum, for the backup blade action.

The only fly in the ointment for this plan I could think of, was the Seb lockbar lockface wearing over time, causing the 'backup blade' to not fit as well - but figure I've seen so many posts of people's Sebs that haven't had lockup travel even over a decade, so figure that's not an issue - and for the Umnum, the blade tang will wear before the ceramic ball will, so figure I'm covered!

I'm nuts.
