Idahone or Spyderco

I haven't tried the Idahone stones but I have a set of the Spyderco ceramic stones for my Tsprof and they seem to work fairly well but keep in mind they are not the fastest cutting stones.

The Spyderco stones stay flat for along time and clean up very well with Bar Keepers friend powder version I have never had any luck with the liquid unless it sat for a year or 2 and separated to where just a clear liquid comes out and the bottom of the bottle is hard.

No experience with the Idahone stones but I love my Spyderco stones. Much like the Sharpmaker, they are great for maintaining edges. Not so much for doing any really super dull blades. As Wade7576 mentioned above, they are slow cutting. I can only assume the Idahone stones would be similar?

Just based on reputation and the fact there is a long track history with the Spyderco stones, I would go with them. It's a known product and know results.

Between the Spyderco ceramic stones and the Idahone ceramic stones which get better results

I've used round rods like those of the Idahone. I get better results with the Sharpmaker's triangular rods.

I have both but never warmed up to the Sharpmaker ... the Idahone is great for an end of the day touch up ... but touch ups are about all I use that type sharpener for ...

if a knife truely needs sharpening I go to stones or DMT Diafolds if the steel needs diamonds.

Almost tried the idahone but went with a zirconia harden ceramic stone I found on gritomatic. I think I'm going to go back the spyderco UF. The stones not bad but I feel like it isn't as fine as the UF and burnished more than cuts. I'd be interested to try the idahone or the wicked edge micro ceramics, but reviews are mixed or non existent, Spyder UF is widely loved.

I have been using the Idahone since the start of the year. I really like it, and get good results with it. I also have a Lansky, which gives me a good :thumbsup:range of angles and grits. I do not like recommending things to people i do not know, but i have no issues with the Idahone. I'm in Australia and they were a pleasure to do business with. Hope i have not confused you.
