So a spear point blade with a handle that rises above the top of the spine and serrations on the spine...what do you think?

If you are looking for something like that you can search for saw back blade style and maybe find something you like.

My diving knife is pretty much exactly like this. Very versatile, I definitely like it.

Personally im not a fan of double edges. No need for it. But you should check out the Benchmade Adamas fixed blade.

Like these?

How does a handle rise above the top of the spine? What does that mean?

Is a Randall Model 18 like what you are talking about? Its been around for decades. An ng the more famous knives ever.

I think he's referring to a folder that allows the blade to completely fold into the handle so the spine doesn't stick out. I.e so you don't get cut on the serrations.

But, it's already been done. Microtech has some otf's with a plain&serrated double edge too.

So you want a folder with as sawback? Using the sawbach will almost guarantee that it will close on your fingers.

There's not really much use for having a saw on the back of a folding knife blade. I'd just get a sak.

The thing with serrations is that they are harder to maintain. They don't cut any better than a properly sharpened edge either. Now it's all personal preference, but I've stopped buying serrated knives.

Well with fixed blades I've mostly just seen it in cheap knives. I don't just mean sawbacks, sometimes I've seen them with a saw back portion and a serrated portion but they've mostly all been cheap "survival" Rambo knives. Those Spyderco's look nice though. I'd much rather it be serrated like that because most of the sawback's I've had/seen were so wide that they'd never easily cut anything.

For a folder I think something like a Gerber Applegate would work well in that configuration.

Benchmade had a fixed blade knife like that a while ago. I can't remember the model number.
