I'd like to start a discussion on design philosophies that you consider or have had requested by tradesmen. Welders, electricians, carpenters, pipefitters, etc. I like the idea of a stout-spined Wharncliffe, but in nearly 9 years pipelining I can't say I ever saw one in the ditch. Fixed or folder. I'm not in that work anymore, but I wish I had been interested in making knives when I was.

Anyways, if any of you have some daily heavy use blades out there what are the characteristics that make them unique? I fully expect different specs for different trades, so what is requested most often?

I agree with Hengelo.
The actual bade shape is not as important as the ease of use. It has to be easy to open, easy to carry, and robust enough to take daily use and carry.
I would say that most all workman's knives I have made or used had a simple drop point blade. Spine thickness should be sufficient, but not overly thick, as that just adds weight.
