Hey all, I have been fooling around with my CS Pipe Hawk, trying to get a feel for it, and was curious what you all think are the best dimension for a fightin' hawk. ;) In some ways I like the long handle on the CS, but it does seem a bit unwieldy and made me curious of what traditional and modern tomahawks sport as far as length of handle and width of edge and such.

That will depend on what other weapons you have, who you're fighting, time period, and your preferences. Where are you fighting, an open field, a hallway? Who's your opponent, are they armored, what weapon do they have? Do you, or your opponent also have guns?

No one weapon is better than the others. But, in general you will want something fast in hand and sharp. There's lots of options, opinions, and situations. Narrow down the situation to narrow down the choices.

Well, To be a tomahawk is a nice weapon for multiple enclosures considering you can choke up or back on the shaft to handle different length.

I know the popular fighting hawks today are albeit useless for me. I want something more than the anemic 12" long as I will be using it as a tool too and wouldn't most likely have a firearm or battle rifle for a primary weapon.

I think the small fighting hawks are designed with carryability in mind instead of making the best weapon possible. I know a soldier isn't going to carry a cumbersome weapon when they have superior firearms. If they were going to want the best weapon possible why not get a real full size battle ax lol.

So for me I would choose my equinox coronado vec hawk as it is light, long, and powerful.

I was planning on have a more traditional 'hawk custom made, which was why I was curious.

My 18" wood grain Equinox Coronado hawk looked pretty traditional with wood grained handle and Trail Hawk head. Once you hold it the composite handle becomes obvious.

From early photos and period paintings I think 22"-26" on a Trail Hawk to Pipe Hawk sized head would be about right. I could be mistaken though.

On why yours feels unwieldy, I cannot say for sure. It may be because you haven't been using it enough. I know when I pick up my 24" Vec-hawk after a while using the 18" version it doesn't feel right, right away. Overall, I prefer the longer one's size, but the newer handle style of the shorter.

I like 12-13 inch hawks. Lightning fast in the hand. The hawk does the work, you just need to deliver it there. It's properties, and ability to pull and hook can naturally clear whatever intercepts it.

The ideal fighting 'hawk should look like this......

The ideal "it looks cool and badass" tomahawk can look like whatever you want it to look like.

Good enough that it doesn't need a trigger job. I bought this one for my daughter. We tried several Glocks and S&W M&P's at the range and she consistently shot the best groupings with the Springfield XD. I shot just as well with the M&P.

Sorry for going off topic.
