Haven't posted in a while but I am just finishing up paramedic school so I should be getting more time. I have been looking for a bigger day hike back pack. I have a Camelbak Hawg. I am wondering your guys opinions of day hike back packs. I am really leaning towards a Maxpedition Monsoon, but am unsure if I want the strap all on one shoulder. I have carried a satchel before and that didn't bother me much. Thanks ahead of time for all the help.

Are you a fan of the camelbak bladder?

I have a camelbak HAWG and upgraded to a Trizip for my daypack and I couldn't be happier. The Futura harness really is awesome on it, and the three-zipper setup makes it really easy to get at gear without unloading, and you can cram it like a top-loading pack.

Kelty Redwing 44 and don't look back :D If it has to be MOLLE, the Kelty Raven 2100 is on firesale at a couple of places for around a hundred bucks.

I actually use a climbing backpack for day hikes (A Jansport model that they no longer make). It has a compartment for a water bladder, many pockets, and the best part: straps that let you cinch the pack down so it sits as close to your back as possible. It's ~3lbs, I believe and I've put it through hell.

I usually travel pretty light and just go with a shouldbag although these guys have turned my head

A shoulder bag just doesn't cut it for me... if it's really hot out, I want 3-4 liters of water with me. Even with nothing else, that much weight on one shoulder doesn't work. For me.

Botach Tactical has Kelty Peregrine's on sale for $39 right now. It's the 1800cui daypack of their tactical line. Mine should be here in a day or two.

I have a 511 Tactical Rush 72 pack. Excellent pack, tough, huge amounts of pockets, zippers on most. The only downside to all those pockets and zippers is it's pretty heavy.

Thanks for all the advice I forgot to mention I would like to keep it below 150 and preferably have a spot for a ccw. Otherwise that kelty looks great.

I have a monsoon and i have to say at first i wasn't crazy about the mono strap but after using it for awhile it has become my go every where bag. the rolliepollie bags are nice aswell but i'd go for the monsoon if i had to choose again.

I gave 2 of the max single shoulder bags a try. For what i carry for a day hike, even to work It was to much on one shoulder for me. I did like the condor 2 . The vulture 2 looks pretty good to me as well but i have never used one. Good luck.

Rumbrave I am wondering if you have used it for hiking much. I would use it for a woods bumming bag. I wouldn't be taking 10 mile hikes with it. Thanks for any advice in advance.
