It looks like you need a US-made Spyderco. I'd suggest the UKPK because it is affordable, gives you a slipjoint and a new steel, and also it's a great and light knife.
Also, the obligatory Opinel No 7-8, and Morakniv Companion. Though there is a knife called the Antonini Old Bear that is very similar generally to an Opinel, but is Italian made and has kind of a more interesting lock collar. I'd never heard of it until I already owned an Opi, but I think I would have tried it instead. But a Carbone Opinel is good (or maybe Morakniv) for experimenting with patina, since they are so cheap.
Hmm... And the Gerber Strongarm is a decent tough fixed blade with a very nice sheath given the price point. It's a pretty basic design but the handle is very comfortable and the size is good. The blade is super thick though, so I'd say expect to reprofile it for any sort of decent cutting.
