Hey folks, had a question about sharpening i usually sharpen with an ez lap bench stone free hand or arkansas stones, was wondering if anyone here uses any alignment style sharpeners like DMT,Lansky or any of the sort for sharpening? i wanted to try to hold a more uniform edge than usually get by hand it is usually very sharp but wanted to try something new. also how about a 15 degree angle on the RC gang, has anyone done that and how did it hold up? Thanks a bunch for any input.

I have a DMT magna-guide - very good for the smaller blades like my Izula, HEST, and leatherman. I didn't get it to work as well with my RC5 though...

I started with the sharpmaker a few months back. In the mean time i learned to freehand with the rods. Now i can make a dull blade shaving sharp in 20 minutes with only the spyderco Double Stuff and finish with ultra fine sharpmaker rod. For the machete i also have a lansky puck.

Weird thing is, i can get a shaving edge with the sharpmaker medium and fine rods but when using the UF rod in the sharpmaker i fail misserably. Using the UF rod freehanded, the knife splits a hair.....
