I sent a bunch of blades to heat treat all 1095 all came back good except on small warp (That I fixed using advise given on this forum) What I did was totally overlooked filing in the gimping on the spines of 3 of my blades. Now I am 100% sure I will not be able to file (I tried in a hidden area not even a scratch, ok not a significant scratch) I have a Bridgeport mill............. Any ideas or am I just going to not have that feature on these blades??
Thanks Jerry

I'm pretty sure you mean Jimping. Gimping is walking woith a limp.

You can use a:
Diamond file
Diamond rotary burrs (Harbor Freight)
Dremel cut off wheel
Carbide bit in a mill

The jimping can also be etched into the spine.

Ya that's what happens when I type in the dark without my glasses. But thanks for the help

I use a home made one, but it maxes at 15 volts. I do several 10-15 second cycles, cleaning the felt pad and rinsing off the blade a few times during the process. I used nail polish to protect the sides of the blades, but they still usually need cleanup after the etching, so I do it once its profiled and rough ground.

Great thanks I already have a Email out to Patricia from IMG to get stencil pricing. Thanks For your Help Sir.

You're welcome! Let me know how the stencil holds up! It may get clogged quickly

If etching it in, I think a fine tip paint brush and some Testor's enamel would be the best masking for doing jimping.

I may try that. The etchant seems to get under the nail polish on the sides of the blade. Maybe use a cricut stencil and then paint the lines thru the stencil and remove the stencil? That way the lines will be more even?
