Hello & thanks for admitting me to the forum. I must admit I'm not really a Buck collector, or of knives in general (that's my older brother lol). Recently got a rather large knife inexpensively at a garage sale but can't find the model or approx. age from looking online. It is about 13-15/16" long and has "Buck USA" at the base of the blade where it meets the handle.

I'd like to attach a couple photos of the knife in question to help with ID but can't figure out how to do it on this forum. Any assistance you could provide would be most appreciated, thanks.

Erik, that's a Buck slicer/carving knife from one of the earlier Buck kitchen sets.

I'm not sure how you are going about posting the image or if Google Images will allow third party hosting. If you can get the BBCode for your images you can paste that right into the reply box and the images will appear. HTH, Preston

pj, how did you obtain a look at his photo?
Erick, welcome to the Buck Forum. What color is the handle on your knife? DM

pj, ok I see how you did it.
Erick, your knife is the 9" carver from the Empress Trio set, model 200. One knife of 3. Plus, it has a walnut display box
that held the 3 knives. It having a black micarta handle would put it from 1972. Get the rest of them and you'll have a nice
kitchen cutlery set. DM

I right clicked on the green IMG box and followed the directions to see the image. Couldn't find a BBCode for it. Preston

Sorry, this image hosting thing is new to me... the handle is a very dark burgundy I would say (looks black from a distance). The thing is the handle has what appears to be "grain"--is this true of micarta?

If you register at 'Imgur' it's free.

You can host your photos there, but, keep them also on your computer.

When you select a photo to post it will give you several codes. I use the BBCode and paste it in the 'Post Reply' box. Preston

If the handle is of maroon micarta then your 9'' slicer is from 1973 and after. Are the corners of the handles rounded/ radiused,
instead of squared off? The maroon handle slicers are more common. DM

Maroon micarta model on the left and black micarta on the right. There are slight differences in the knives. DM

The black micarta models = 1972 - I think a bit earlier. The maroon micarta set 1973 to before year dates, 1985. DM

I use at least one of these knifes daily. Just this evening I used the small one for slicing up some yella squash and the largest one for breaking down a largish cantaloupe.
