A new acquisition - been looking at small fixed blade knives quite a bit since my trials with most folders not working for me.

In the image you will see Northwoods Knives - Gladstone Mich - USA. There are no other markings on the tang. It came as new in the box, but the box lends nothing to any more details - the label on the end of the box simply says "Northwoods Bird and Trout". It is 6.25" OAL with the blade 3". Below are a couple pics for scale with a Tidiote #12 Toothpick and and Opinel No 8.

I love this little knife - and it sure is small. I would like to know the blade and handle material and any other details I can find. When I Google this knife, most of the results are for Scagel.......

Nice knife.

Northwoods Knives out of Gladstone, Mich. is a company owned by a member here, okbohn (Derrick), who also owns Knives Ship Free (links to current line of fixed blades) an on-line Knife store. A great place to do business, BTW. ;)

Drop him an email or PM him or contact KSF through their web site and ask him. I bet he can tell you everything you need to know.

Best of luck. :)

You know, if you are interested in additional small fixed blade knives, you might also check out the pocket knives made by a collaboration between JK Knives & KYEnglish. Knice little knives, O1 steel, and choices of handle and blade style. Check here: JK English knives.

Both do great work and are worth a look. Personally, I have my eye on a Pocket King. :)

Edit:
BTW, I dropped Derrick a PM. If he gets it, he might pop in and let us know if we're on the right track or not.

I can't remember for certain but the blasé is either 420hc or d2. The handle is cocobolo.

I know I sold a boatload of them back in the day. :)

Thanks so much guys! I knew Derrick owned the Northwoods company but didn't know if it was a recent acquisition or not. I was concerned with the blade material in how to treat it - need to keep it oiled like 1095 or OK without any. And I kind of thought the handle was either ironwood or cocobolo - glad to know for sure. I really like this little guy!

I took a look at the JK/KY collaboration - very nice but I am liking a slimmer blade right now. That's why I like the bird & trout and/or desk knife type right now.

Nice little b&t design, for sure.

Correct me if I'm wrong, Derrick - but would that knife be from the Dave Shirley era of Northwoods?

They'd be able to tell you about it in the Bernard Levine's forum.

Yep. We have not come out with any fixed blades. We finished some Dave had started, but nothing to speak of. We decided to move it entirely traditional pocket knives.

Pretty little knife. You could slice an apple with it and find out pretty quick if it's 1095. :)
