I have a lot of Camillus knives made for Buck, but this is my only Camillus brand knife. It was in a collection of Buck 300 series.

I have looked through the online Camillus catalogs and feel certain it is a #72 Whittler; however, I can't find a date for this smooth yellow Delrin variation. Can anyone help?

Thanks, Bert

Not really sure of starting date but it is a 72Y - from our Yello-Jaket line. It's pattern number 55. Based on the nail mark on the clip blade, I would say it is one of the older ones, IIRC.

Thanks, Rick.

I guess one question left is that this knife doesn't have "Yello-Jaket" etched on the blade. Does that make it slightly earlier than the Yello-Jaket series?

Over the years I've seen different model Camillus knives with both long and short nail nicks. Some of these models have been confirmed to have been produced during the same general time period. From that I'm not too sure if the style nail nick can be used reliably to date the knife.

The more I look at this knife, the more I believe it was one of the last knives out the door. The lack of an etch further ensures that this might very well be the case. As time goes by, the details of these knives begin to fade. I believe that the nail mark on this model never changed. Sorry for the confusion. Either way, your knife appears in excellent condition.
