I want to buy a Khukri that looks like the one in a picture I found.
My info is that it was originally purchased in Nepal (used) and is a
contemporary Army model of some kind.

Does anyone know what kind it is? As a guess, I would think 10" blade
Any help (guesses, suggestions, authoritative discourses, etc.) would
be appreciated.

Thanks to mPisi for hosting.

Kinda looks BAS like. The BAS is 15" overall and some have a similar shape. Generally they have been about 20 oz. as of late.

BAS-ish

Also much like a sort of traditional village model;
it has a bit of the pug/bulldog look to it.

Try looking at the last three pix at the bottom of this page:

here's a recent village-style-BAS:

Maybe here:

I believe these are sold by Khukuri House and by a number of dealers who get them from Khukuri House as "Service No. 1" model, with the representation that they are issue items to Ghurka units.

If you are ordering from Nepal, watch the postage/shipping costs. :eek:

I was thinking the same thing as Thomas. It kind of reminds me of a SN1 model. If you like it because of it's size and weight, then you really can't go wrong with the HI BAS or even a 15" villager model. If you like this blade purely for it's more snubbed nose and gentle break in the spine, then maybe look at a smaller GRS. It has a big belly which takes away from the point and transitions into a smooth non-broken bend. Either way, unless you are buying from someone in the states I would just stick with HI products. You'll get the best quality at an unbeatable price.

HI BAS (British Army Service) probably comes closest. Great first khukuri, and still one of my favorites-- a real workhorse that often gets eclipsed by the slightly larger 16.5" WWII model. You can't go wrong with either of those.
