HI all,

I was hoping that u guys might be able to help me with the valuation of this knife as I was planning of selling it. This is slightly over 10". Sorry if This is the wrong place to post.

Bernard: Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that's a classic "tourist" model khukuri. Probably worth, in the US, about $20.00. They can be bought on the streets of Kathmandu for about $4.00. I hope that helps, and welcome to the forum! Thanks for posting the picture, as it is often so hard to tell with these questions without a picture.

General ways you can differentiate the tourist models from real khukuris:

Tourist Khuks usually have "barrel shaped" handles and not tapered ones.

They usually have a bunch of brass ornaments tacked on to the sheath.

The tang is usually not full tang (you can see the little metal tang coming through the handle on real khuks). If your tourist khuk DOES have a full tang, it is usually either a false tang (a nail driven in the bottom) or else it's not well attached, or maybe it is and it's unique.

If you click the handle with your finger nail you can hear a hollow sound - due to the lack of a solid laha (nepali glue) seal.
