Hey all, haven't been around for a while, but I've been busy so don't feel too bad.

However! I just got an email from Gabriel Brånby, Gränsfors Bruk Axes, and he was able to identify the GB Axe that I had posted an ID question about ages ago. First, here's the Axe In Question.

Mystery GB Axe

According to Mr. Brånby, it is an "Old Montreal" that was forged between 1945 and 1955, and sold almost exclusively in Canada. It took a little while to get the info, but I'm delighted to get it! Particularly now that I know that it was forged before their temporary descent into poor quality axe making. Woo-hoo! That is just fannn-tastic!!!

So, there ya are, if anyone else has an old unidentified GB Axe that looks like the one above, then it's probably an "Old Montreal."

Cheers!

I see the stamp from Gransfors. Hultafors, at least, also did such a model of their own. It's understandable.

Yeah, I know. That was what had me so very patiently waiting for Mr. Brånby to get back to me. I found on YouTube, and here, and BCUSA, axes that look IDENTICAL to mine in every way, except that they were all Hults Bruk / Hultafors. Since I could just make out the GBA on mine, I was all confused. Because normally, my Google-fu is awesome when it come to finding info, and I just couldn't find a GBA model that had EVER had that shape. Drove me twitchy! Was it a Hults Bruk / Hultafors that at some point had been doctored to look like a GBA to try and increase it's value? Nahhh, that wasn't too likely. So, I waited as patiently as I could for Mr. Brånby to return my email.

And he did! And now I know that it's an awesome axe that was forged between 58 and 68 years ago. And it came from the town dump metal pile... Wow, just wow.

Here are all of my bladed dump scores. (All in the last year or so.)

My GB Old Montreal is the one at the top. The only other axe in the bunch with a name is the one at the bottom left. It's a True Temper Black Prince, Welland Vale. Can't be sure of the date. Older than 1965 anyways.

Cheers!
