Recently purchased 1962-1967 Buck general 120. There are 4 bone hard fibre spacers, Stamp on blade reads "Buck" (no Asterisk). No sheath. No sign of plugs going thru side or end of Pommel.
Regular black phenolic handle and aluminum pommel and finger guard. Magnet reveals nothing at pommel. Are there any Ideas out there as to how I can reveal weather this knife is a Barrel nut or Dowel pin. I'm thinking of having the pommel xrayed. Im thinking someone has done a hell of a job hiding the plugs. Tony

Post photos of the pommel, both sides & the end, or get the knife cold, blow your breathe on it, and quickly look at the fogging to see if a circle for a pin or barrel nut shows up.

Sorry unable to upload pictures as my membership is only basic. I tried what you said, put the knife in the fridge and breathed on it heavily. Could not see anything in the fog. How are the pommels attached on the newer knives without dowels or nuts? Thanks Tony

LOL, you did get a cold Buck knife!

Take your knife and rub the pommel against your jeans fast to create friction thus heating your pommel. Now quickly exhale on the heated pommel and you should see your pin in the fogging.

Yep, tried heating the pommel as well and still with heavy breath I was unable to reveal anything. I own over 50 different knives of this model and have not seen anything like this. Any other suggestions would sure be appreciated. Thanks again Tony.

The Plug of a barrel nut is always visible, but not the pin. Take a magnifire or make high resolution photos and you'll see the rivet or the plug.

P.S.: You can use a photo hoster like photobucket to show your pictures.
