Identify a Case...

The local hardware store is a Case dealer, and walking by the display case yesterday I stopped for a look. One caught my eye of coarse, but I'm not at all sure what I was looking at. I should have taken a picture of it but figured I'd be able to just go on line and find it... No luck. It looked like a 7062... Large warncliffe blade... but, at the other end I swear it had two small blades. A pen blade and another small blade that has a straight edge and squared off at the tip. I can't find a 3 bladed 7062 on the case site. The one in the store has a red bone handle, I believe it's what I keep seeing refered to as "pocket worn". It's got my attention, I would really like to bring it home, but it's also priced at $71.99. I want to know what it is and what I should be paying for it before I ask to have the display case opened. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Am I fooling myself or does the knife I just described actually exist? Thanks, Mark.

AHHHHHHH, now I see. Learn something everyday. It is a whittler pattern. Now that I answered that for myself, how does the price sound?

Did it look like this, only in red bone?

If so, that's a Case Seahorse Whittler.

Wharncliffe main, pen and coping secondaries sounds like a Seahorse Whittler to me. $72 in Pocket Worn red bone sounds about average for a brick and mortar store.

Yep, that's it! My wife told me she'd put aside $100 from our tax return for me. If I can find one cheaper I will, but after looking at the one in the store... I gotta have one in my pocket! Thanks guys!

One last thought-- if I'm not mistaken, the Seahorse is currently in Case's "vault," and has been since July 2010. This in itself doesn't mean much if you can find a less expensive one elsewhere. However, seeing as it's a Seahorse Bug what done bit ya and Case is not currently making more, you may be more fortunate than you yet realize, to have one available to you Locally, Now, and within your tax-return price range.

Another shot of it in the Tradional Sunday picture show also.

Desire fulfilled. :-)

I'm happy for you! Thanks for the great picture, too.

Off to find the other picture you mention above....

But when it does come back, it'll be better and stronger. It's worth it IMO

Out of curiosity (and perhaps a topic for another thread), but what do you mean by "better and stronger"? I'm new at this. Does Case typically refresh a pattern in some way when it comes out of the vault, and/or do you mean the next Seahorses might feature previously unavailable types of scales, etc.?

Genuinely curious.
