Hi, guys!

Wanted to talk to some of you more experienced Hogs about examining a Busse for authenticity. I recently obtained a SHBM off "that" auction site. It was from a guy in Poland...pretty good price. He had good feedback (some of it even in English), the pics of the knife looked real....and the site had their own "Buyer's Protection" policy. So, I went for it.

Looking it over, and comparing it to a 1/300 that I recently got from an awesome Hog right here (thanks, Vox!), it sure looks the same - very smooth black coating, shape, dimensions, etc. It's sterile, and it's got an asymetrical edge, some dimples visible beneath the coating on the ricasso....if it's a fake, someone went through a great deal of trouble to make it look authentic. I'm pleased with it; but in keeping with the site's "Buyer's Protection" policy, I'd like to be as sure as I can within the time frame given by the policy.

So my question is, is there a way to tell by examination? I don't know a lot about the SHBMs or how they looked...just what I've read. It certainly looks good...just a little "squiggle" raised area near the top front of the blade on one side....possibility of a little something under the coating, maybe (it looks in shape and texture very similar to a squiggle on one of my Barkies). What would you guys recommend?

Thanks so much!

Edited to add: it's the one with the hollow handle rivets; the other is the 1/300 I got from Vox!

If it's got an asymetrical edge, that should be a pretty good sign that it's real. I'm not aware of any other makers that do this, although I'm sure there are several. Also, if it was a knock off, you can pretty much guarantee the person doing the knocking off would not know about the Busse asym edge.

You know, that's one of the things that made pull the trigger on this one. I figured the same thing you did.

Why wouldn't people doing knock offs know about th asym edge? I know about it and it was before my time an I'm not even a full blown hog, just a knife guy.

Suspicious Hog is Suspicious. I am a certified Busse certificate certification expert............

Send it to me for Certification. If it fails the certification process, I will send you a certified failure of certification certificate, and dispose of the knife properly.

Real answer, it looks completely legit to me.

Now that is a hog answer. Lots of words that come to mean give it to me. ;):p

Thanks for the advice, guys! I'm getting a scale as soon as I can; then I'll be able to weigh it. Ideally, I'd like to send it in to the shop to look it over; but I don't want to bother them so soon after Knob Creek. That's one of the reasons I started this thread...to see if there was any other way to go about it.

Was the guys first name Robert?

Not sure. His handle is slavicepic, though. I didn't see any references to him showing up here in BF when I did a search.

I still might have the shipping notice; I'll see if there's a "Robert" on it.

LOL...if so, would that be good or bad?!!

Good. Looks like one I sold to someone in Poland a few years back.
