Hi,
what's you opinion: Are these Desert Ironwood?

and

Bonus Q: The Jimping on the Sebenza, can you give a timeframe? Please.
I did a search, but got no satisfying answer.
The Sebie should be 2006, while the scales read C03. Possible?

Thanks in advance.

The Mnandi looks like ebony or perhaps rose wood to me, it doesn't strike me as particularly "iron woody". The Sebenza could be iron wood but I'm still going to say, no, in favour of something else.
They could also both be iron wood of course, I have chunks of it that are very dark, nearly solid black with little figure or grain, while some is like blocks of golden yellow goodness with crazy, near holographic figure and grain.

Thanks for the reply.
The birthday cards, that go with the knives, indicate DI.
I think a mix up could also be possible.
The Mnandi is really dark and Rosewood was also my first idea, possible Zircote too.
The grain on the Sebenza looks more like Bocote to me (compared with current offerings).
But then there are pieces of wood that look different.
Thanks again.

I think you're right about the birth cards.
I think the only ones with that jimping were made in the first quarter of 2004.
The slabs were made in late 2003, and I'm thinking the knife was put together in early 2004.

The Sebenza looks a lot like bocote (first pic below), but certainly could be ironwood (images from the net):

To me, the mnandi looks like ebony. CRK has used several different ebony's over the years, just different names is all. Could also be African Blackwood as I have seen it with streaks, but my heart says ebony.

The sebenza looks like my favorite Bocote. I have also seen Ironwood that looks Bocote-like. Zebrawood is a possibility also.

It's possible that they are both desert ironwood. It's appearance can be similar to bocote, ebony and rosewood.

I have 4 large desert ironwood classics, 3 of them from 05-07. They are darker than that and all have a bit of a red cast. I think the large is bocate and the mnandi is ebony.

Your Mnandi looks similar to mine although it looks like mine has a little more red in it. Here's an older pic of my Mnandis at the time. The top and bottom ones are both desert ironwood. The top is from April 07 and the bottom is from December 2012. The 2nd from the bottom is ebony.

And some older pics from when I got the older Mnandi.

update.
The mixup of the Sebenza is confirmed, maybe CRK can help.
The Mnandi is desert ironwood (well i choose to believe it).
It is very dark - di can look this way.
Here is a pic of the disassembled knife.

Another picture is in the Mnandi thread.

Thank you all for your support - means a lot.
