Looks like it might have been some sort of polearm head. Perhaps a halberd?

What are the dimensions? A Halberd would be socketed on a pole. This looks like a haft just went into the eye. It looks a little like an old fire axe I've seen during the late 1800's. The steel looks unpitted & unworn though so I wouldn't say it is very old. They even made fraternal ones like this for wierd lodges of all kinds. That and funny hats too.

halberd minus the spike .. im no axe expert but im thinking it has to be a pole weapon of some sort due to the downward spike ( pulling an enemy of a horse ? ) downward spike would have no use in a swingin motion.... that halberd you posted does look very similar in desighn

well i got it all cleaned up but theres some pretty bad pitting along with a chipped up blade but anywho i found an axe handle layin around problem is it just doesnt look right ! so im thinking ill go down to the lumber yard and get a nice piece of wood then turn my own handle , a shorter one and maybe add a spike to the bottom ..... sometime in the near future i plan on sending it off for more cleaning and a chrome bath or something

That is awesome!!!
I wanna see the look on your buddies faces when you whip that out camping
PLEASE take a picture of you chopping wood with it for me!!!

I don't know about a chrome bath though....

im not to into the chrome myslef just tossing ideas around and before i get ripped for cleaning up this one i want to add that a piece cracked off the other side that i didnt notice before and it appears to have some type of finish that was flaking off it while i cleaned it , maybe chrome plated before ? who knows but i doubt it was every worth any major money ... so no harm in cleaning this 1 up i suppose and besides its never gonna leave my basement

look at the pic below and you'll notice theres no ''point'' pointing downwards towards the top of the handle .. it must have cracked off years ago or something , the other side still has it though
