Can someone help me identify this Newt Livesay knife for me. Green micarta handles, approx. 6'' sharpened edge, total blade length approx. 6 5/8" long. Total overall length is 11 7/8". I picked up today @ a militaria show for $80. The edge appears unused but the knife has kydex rubs from the sheath. Any help is appreciated.

IIRC its one of the 2 knives named after airborne units.
The 82nd.
I believe the 101st had a different handle.
And the kydex rub marks happened on all 3 of my Livesay knives.

80 bucks got you a good deal on a good knife.

I believe you are right, it does have the number "82" on the side. Any idea on the actual value?

I think they sold new for around $150..
Thier should be some other #s letter on the other side of the blade that will tell you when it was made and the steel type...
The market for Newt's knives seems soft IMO I have seen several of his knives for sale and not getting close to retail or above..
But then again there were thousands made so those that want them have them and Newt's rep holds the value down..

If that's the case, then why did you send me an e-mail offering to purchase it?
I maybe new here on this forum, but I am not new to collecting. I know the maker's history, I just couldn't find some info this knife, the knife isn't for sale. I appreciate your candor, but I have had several offers on this knife already, all above twice what I paid. This one is a keeper. I'll put you first in line if I ever part ways with it.

I was not trying to imply you are a Noob I see plenty of people on here looking for a value because they are thinking of selling.. I was simply asking if you wanted to sell..
So accept my apologies if I offended you by my email!!

That was rude and uncalled for. The guy was nice enough to answer your question twice, accurately, and that is the thanks he gets. I'll try to remember not to answer any of your questions, pal.

1. I guess you missed the part where I offered him first dibs if I ever decide to sell it. Reading is fundamental....

2. I dont' know you, so don't call me pal. It wouldn't bother me in the least if you don't offer any help. I apologize to md10mm if I seemed abrasive, but you Broos can mind your own business.

All too often people try to lowball you with offers to buy on forums when you try to inquire on value of objects. As I mentioned before, I extend my sincere apologies to md10mm.....The only thing I apologize to you,Broos, was not being too PC. I 'll remind myself to be a little more sensitve and wear my kid gloves when dealing with you .

For a minute I thought I was at an etiquette class, Miss Manners.

Take this advice in any way you please, but you can be given an infraction for using the jerkit smilie as an insult or put-down of another member. Use that smilie with discretion.

Advice taken, but Broos can still butt out ,AFAIC. md10mm & I are clear on what my intent was, that's all that really matters to me.

The other Airborne knife was called the Air Assault (101st Airborne - Air Assault) if I remember correctly. The blade was 5.5" and the handle was more rounded at the pommel with a single finger cut-out.

Thanks, I'll look into that model.

Given the large numbers of Livesays out there (like several thousand?), its actually surprising how few actually turn up for sale on the forums.

Mine are all keepers!

I've found the heat treat to be excellent, but most importantly they handle fantastically.

The only one I didn't like was the Sandbar Bowie but I kinda regret selling it now...

The 101 (Airmobile?) is another.
Picture the OP's knive with the same handle (model 1 handle?) as on the Air Assault.

If you want to buy some Livesays, his son-in-law has some in stock:

I recently picked up another AA from him / Joda and its actually better than the 2000-era AA I already have. The little hump on spine has been discontinued tho - probably because it was such a waste of steel, even though it was really nice to use.

You came on and requested info, and blasted a forumite providing assistance publicly for something that could very well have stayed private.
Then, you lipped off to Broos, who has been around for a while, and showed himself as a man of honor and honesty. THAT will not make you ANY friends 'round here.:grumpy:

I'll see you around, Charlie.

As mentioned before, md10mm & I are crystal clear on my statements, we are square on intent, no harm, no foul. If I wanted to sell, I'd post in the Exchange Forum or put it on EBay. My approach may have seemed callous/rude but, I still feel it was between me & md10mm. I understand that I posted in a public forum for all to see & that was my bad and I have cleared that up with md10mm. However, if your offended by my comments to Broos, I offer no apologies. He butted in before he knew what was privately discussed between md10mm & myself..........

I have no beef with you,Kohai , but if you want to be mad, then be mad...

I feel that BROOS lipped off to me without knowing what was said privately & I took offense, regardless his post counts or status.

See you around Kohai
