A guy my friend works with has a pair of swords he wanted to get identified. Supposedly he has had them for 20 years.
To me, they look like mediocre wallhangers.
What say you all?

The fittings have a cast pewter look about them, the blade looks like polished Stainless steel and the handle apears to be wrapped in a type of flat nylon cord.
Given all this I would say it's just a wall hanger.

It's entirely possible to have 20 year old mediocre wall hangers... In short I agree with your assessment completely. :)

I tend to think of wall hangers as vintage weapons that are in such a state of disrepair that they have no value other than historical curiosity and a rugged esthetic value. Good to hang on the wall, but worthless for anything else.
The cheap import "imitation" weapons such as those pictured above, in my opinion, don't even rise to that level. They are merely decorator objects, and were never manufactured with any serious intention of being used. I frankly wouldn't care to hang one on my wall, any more than I would hang an imitation stuffed trout.

That is true, and vintage pieces might have some value to antique collectors. I did mention that they were "mediocre" ;)

Thanks for all the responses so far.
Seems my first impression was correct.

hi Rat Fink...you assessed it just like a pro..."wall-hanger" :D...i on the other hand would put it in another category of "tourist piece". ;) probably worth $30 for both.

Just curious, can you disassemble the Tsuka and see if the blade is signed or stamped? just an idea, the hardware does look "wallhangerish" but the blade contrasts with the hardware a little bit in my opinion.
