I Picked up this beauty and I have been trying to figure out the kami. I think it was Sher but some things make me wonder if it wasn't someone else.

She's almost to beautiful to use.... Almost

The kami mark and initials in Devangari are definitely Sher. The very high quality of the piece and certain details also say "Sher."

What makes you think it's not Sher?

What is the overall length, weight and spine thickness?

Im pretty sure thats a Sher. The Devanagari inscription is even the same. Very nice YCS. I have one too by Yovraj Shers brother and I know what you mean about using it. I would really like to buy another for use someday because the design is so nicely done. They do feel lively. I have seen them vary greatly in weight as well. The kardas alone are very well done and a very useful size. Nice find! Grats!

Beautiful acquisition SpeadyMeady very pretty, if you decide make it a user just make sure you maintain it well and it should last a lifetime.

NDog, So many of your pictures just hurt the blades you have are so gorgeous. But that particular one is one of my top favorites of all the HI blades I have seen for beauty.

what kami uses the cross?

Long ago it used to be Sanu Kami.
I'm not sure if a new kami is using it now.
Is this an old or new piece?

Probably best to just send a pic of the mark and kami initial to Auntie and ask her. She reads devangari and knows who has what marks.
With the kami turnover we've had in the last year or so, I haven't been able to keep up with who has what and with both Auntie and I being kept so busy I haven't quite gotten around to asking her for an updated list. Whenever the idea to do so pops in my silly little head, something comes up that needs attention either here or IRL and "poof" it's gone again.....lately it's been my health issues and visiting doctors and trying to keep my poop together.

my YCS made in 2000 has sanu's mark, was the first knife my brother bought from HI, all those years ago. I just for some reason thought that the cross guy was related to sher, but I am sure you are right, its sanu-- this is a early early model, pre UB and pre english initials or initials for kami-- its just HI, with a small christian type cross as the kami mark.

I have a KMVUK from the "new" Kumar who is now gone, and he also used a cross mark, but it's more of a plus sign than a christian cross.

Karda... eat lot of cheese and bread... that'll help keep it together!

My first siru that I bought from the 5/5/14 deals was advertised as being made by Kumar, and it is also marked with a cross sign, more like a plus sign than a christian cross.

I love the YCS, one of the best knives ever done by HI in my opinion, great pics everyone, esp pugs omg

I gotta get some of that shiny stuff your using Pugs:thumbup: Heres the whole family.

You have some good looking steel there man for sure, you have to love the YCS's

I wasn't sure it was sher because the first initial looked backwards from other pics I looked at. That and I'm a bit of a n00b when it comes to these things. However I took her camping and put her to work. I'm the kind of guy who would be a ferrari and drive it daily :-P

Why yes indeed those are wood chips. And not that anyone is interested but that's also my 78" Toyota camper. She's a bute!

That's exactly the way campers should be too. I'm not into 40' Diesel Pushers. Those are for tour buses not camping.

I wasn't far off on my guess, I new it was late 70's. Just a tad underpowered but perfect size, lessen of course you got 6 kids or something.

Cool camper! Yours is 14 years newer than mine! I dont use it for anything but storage but I still have it. Nowadays i use a 40' parachute for camping and thats about it. Most of our camping is on the beach.
