Identifying an axe

I recently got this axe from an antique dealer up here in WA and was wondering if any of you lads could help me identify it. The handle didn't come with it, my grandad actually made it back in the 60's and I thought it matched the axe head pretty well so I went ahead and hung it on there. Anyways, if anybody has any ideas I appreciate it.

Interesting axe you've got there. Does that say "1000"?

Looks like the same European maker as the one in this thread:

(1000 would indicate 1000 grams, about 2-1/4 pounds)
