Dear all,

My grand-grand-father found this blade in his garden something like 30 years ago. This blade was just given to me by my family. One hypothesis is that it would come from Marocco/Algerian/Tunisian troops during WW2 (troops which helped the French army).
Indeed, the house near the garden where it was found used to be a camp of the French army at the beginning of WW2.
I was wondering if somewhere here had already seen such a blade and would know anything, would have any anecdot on this type of blades.

THANKS A LOT,

I suppose it is possible that this knife came from one of the countries you mentioned, but if I were you I would take this piece to an expert and have it authenticated. It does not look like the blades that come from northern Africa. They usually have a curved blade amd much more ornate handles. What you have shown looks more like it came from Europe somewhere and may be quite a bit older than from around the second world war.

I am not an expert on this, so you should find someone who is. This dagger/short sword may have a very interesting history.

Edited because of a couple of those pesky typos.

Guillaume,

try a military museum. Maybe there is one in France dedicated to the Foreign Troops. Or show this knife to an ethnographic museum. In Paris you will have both on hand.

If you learn something about it, please share your knowledge with us.
