Identifying carbon or stainless Sharpfinger

I'm a newbie, so there's probably an easy way to tell, but I'm not sure. I found a Schrade Sharpfinger in a dusty display cabinet at a hardware store and picked it up for $19.95. Its an "Old Timer" and the blade has 152 stamped in it. I assumed it was carbon because I thought the Uncle Henry blades were stainless, but I don't know.

Seems really nice for twenty bucks, its the sharpest knife I've ever owned.

Thanks a bunch.

I'm no Schrade expert, but I believe the stainless sharpfinger was actually called the Wolverine, and it had "staglon" scales. For all I know, they may have made a run or two of stainless sharpfingers, I've heard that towards the end some of their OT slipjoints were found to be in stainless. But the general rule seems to be that if you've got a regular sharpfinger 152 it's good old carbon steel.

One sure test is to stick it into a potato overnight. If you get a patina, you've definitely got carbon steel.

Cut a tomato and then give it a rinse. The patina should show almost immediately. It did with all my Mora's anyways:) Hope this helps. Take Care.

IIRC-If the heel stamp says "Schrade", it's carbon steel. If it says "Schrade+" its stainless.
