Hello, I was going through some of my knives and came across a buck knife my father has had for quite a while, and was unable to find any make or model number stamped on the blade. I was wondering if anyone could be able to tell me which model it was, and even possibly the year? Thanks for your time.

looks like a 119, sure someone will come along to tell date range and steel etc.

I'm gonna guess 440c steel but wait for expert to give details...

I agree looks like a 119. If the blade measures near 6" its a 119, if the blade measures 7 1/2" ish that would make it a 120 General. That is a 1967-72 2 line with bone hard fiber spacer. Made with 440c steel.

Thank you all for your help, I’ve already sharpened it on my KME system. What would be the best way to remove the rust on the blade? I also have another buck 120 made around the same time, 1972 or so. Buck makes some great knives.

For rust removal. The first thing I do is flatten a brass shell. Use it as a scraper. Dry no oil. It knocks the rust off without scratching the finish. It even works on blued guns. Often times the rust is growing on the surface from a pin hole.

Then usually wipe with a clean oily rag. It’s important to realize the rust is abrasive. You don’t want to rub the rust crystals into the surface.

If you need more than an oily rag. The surface is damaged anyway. Scotch brite pads are the next step. Try to blend the new scratches with the original finish.

Then you can move onto polishing if you want. I don’t bother.

I would definitely take advantage of Buck's spa service. They do a great job.

The spa is a great option. That knife deserves it. I’ve got a couple there now.

Yeah, trip to the spa. Be sure to specify its sentimental, etc., and no parts are to be replaced.

You also have a choice of edge profile..original for the era it was made or the Edge 2000 that is more user friendly.

It's absolutely amazing for the price. You send them the knife and a check $6.95 and it comes back in about 4-6 weeks (I have 8 knives there right now two 112 Blondes) looking like it just came out of the package...
4-6 after they check them in not from when they receive them it took my 110 11 weeks to get back to me.
