Hey guys n gals.

Is there any away to identify the type of steel used on an XM? 3.5" gen 3 to be specific. I did some googling but not luck.

THANKS

Unmarked is likely Duratech 20CV.

CTS-XHP and S-35VN will be marked accordingly on the blade.

I have a gen 3 3.5 coming tomorrow (hopefully) and it was stated in the ad as having the Duratech 20CV steel. Looking forward to it!

I seen you snag that one up! Congrats!

And to the OP from what I've read, as a user no one can really tell a difference between the steels because of the HT

Thank you! I got my first Hinderer about 2 weeks ago, and I absolutely love it. It's a gen 4 3.5 spanto flipper, and I decided that I would try and go for a non-flipper with a bead-blasted lockside this time around. I've read a lot about it, and found that most users experience lots of scratching and stuff with carrying it.

Anyway, I second your comment about the heat treatment. Personally, I'm sure I won't be able to tell the difference between this newer S35VN steel over the Duratech. I've had a few zt0550's, several sebenza's, and this Gen4 that all have/had s35vn, and it'll be nice to have two XM-18's with different steel!

That's for sure!

I wouldn't mind trying something different too!! But nonetheless it wouldn't effect me buying one either way.

Yeah I almost bought up a bead blasted bronze. But decided against it.... Plus the whole money/wife thing might have been the deciding factor. Haha!

Sorry, I have the same "problem"...this is my 3.5, but this is a gen 4!

I was told my XM-18 3" was a 20CV but couldn't find any markings so that kind of confirms it. Thanks.
