Lance Mackey should be pulling into Nome tonight in what i consider is an amazing accomplishment. A few weeks ago he won the grueling Yukon Quest a 1000 mile race from White Horse Yukon to Fairbanks. His father won one of the early races in the 70s and his brother won a few years back.
Mackey is a cancer survivor who was left with nerve damage in his hand after having a lymphoma removed from his neck. It left him unable to manipulate the trigger finger on one hand. Because the finger got in the way of changing dog booties, Mackey eventually had a doctor remove it, and now he has only three fingers on that hand.

36 Year old Mackey will likely arrive in Nome sometime around 7:30 tonight to win his first Idiatrod, pick up the first-place money of $69,000 and collect a much needed new truck. The ones he owns now often don't run.

What's he need a truck for with dogs like those? :D

He sounds like a sort of Lance Armstrong of the Arctic.
Congratulations on a well-earned victory.

One of the racers who had gotten lost was a rookie ,a woman of 61 years old !! I hardly recommend this to someone of that age ,and a rookie, as the Iditerod pushes the physical and mental limits of both driver and team .
