A comparison between the two would be great! I want to know if the weight difference between the two is noticeable in the hand and during usage...

Thanks

I'll second this request please.

I have the JW and am very curious what others think of the AS.

They have not been out on a side by side comparison in the woods but here's my thoughts so far: While the JW can hold its own in the woods as shown in the above pics-The larger cutting surface of the AS and more useable spike make it a superior woods hawk-with the added breaching capability for urban use as well. The AS larger head gives it a weight advantage in chopping power (AS 24oz vs JW18.5oz). Just holding the two the AS feels like you can deliver more power. If you are traveling heavy That 5.5 oz weight difference gives JW the edge.

Thanks! Does the active shooter feel as "nimble" in the hand for SD purposes or is it a lot more slow?

Not a ninja here but seeing how the fighters move around and work I think the weight advantage for SD movements would favor the Jenny Wren. For example look at the Kailhawk.(17oz) Heres a cut and paste from the RMJ site:

The Kalihawk is a project that Ryan did with Doug Marcaida. Doug had a very specific design in mind and RMJ Tactical has built it for him. Small and fast, the Kalihawk will set the standard for martial arts tomahawks.
The Berzerker would not be as nimble.

Not a ninja here

LOL! I know I just wanna make sure I don't become exhausted during battle! I think the weight increase is probably worth it for breaching ability and the bigger head. I'm going to get a Wrecker first and then the AS...Thanks for all your info, it helped

Your welcome.-You going with the 12 inch Wrecker?

Yeah. To start off. I have no hawks so I have no reference point but the Helm (no "S") Forge Wrecker and RMJ JW and AS look comfortable and easy to pack/carry. After those two I may have an addiction or I'll be satisfied...

Your starting off with a great hawk . Once you start carrying and using it you will wonder how you made it without one!

I also have both hawks and can tell you they both do great out in the woods but the Active Shooter (now called the Pathfinder) does indeed process or bite wood much better than the JW. I did like the top edge sharpened on the JW for pulling off bark from wood, but the same can be done wit the AS stuck spike end down in a tree stump with its beard. For combat, both would do excellently giving the slight edge to the JW for "swiftness". Since I am not regularly in combat situations, and use my hawks in place of a large knife out in the woods and for some urban breaching, I am now selling my Jenny Wren here on BF and sticking with the Active Shooter/Pathfinder!

Good comparison! Thanks

My Jenny Wren was a retirement gift so It will never hit the classified-For those times when You want a hawk tagging along and are trying to travel light its a great one to stow aboard.

a little late chiming in, but I'm currently on a RMJ and Winkler Tomahawk binge and own both the JW and the AS and also the TAD Edition JW and the Kalihawk. My opinion is that the JW is much lighter than the AS. For this post I just weighed them and the AS without scabbard was 24.4 oz and the JW was 18.9. The 5.5 ounces difference in weight might not seem like much on paper but in actuality I think it's huge. If you think about it in terms of percentage, the AS is almost 25% heavier and with 5.5 ounces of weight, I could easily throw in a fixed blade or folder with the JW for the same weight cost. I don't know what your primary use will be for the hawk but I think it's pretty important for determining which one to take with you. If hand to hand close quarter combat is realistic, then I would go with the JW because it's much lighter and better for fighting....but if utility use is more likely, then I would go with the AS because everything about it seems better for utility use. I think the extra weight is a bonus because it helps with striking force and power. As for the Kalihawk, I'm not in any qualified position to make any credible comments about it, but I was kind of disappointed when I got it because almost none of the edges are sharpened. Only the main edge and the lower face of the spike end...none of the beards or top edge are sharpened like the JW....so I would actually go with the JW over the Kalihawk if I was about to go into a fight..but again, I'm not trained in anything and have only been in 2 fist fights in my entire life. Neither having any weapons involved....anyways, hope this helps out in any way.

So to answer your question, Yes it's noticeable and a big difference in my opinion. 25% is pretty huge.
