i do professional repairs...inlays..handles..mirror polish..textured
finshe..any material is probably in my inventory currently. or can
be had same week.. I am going to build a custom balison..the project begins next week..a solid gold balisong...of course..its a collectors
piece..but should be fully functional...will post pics if i can..

Nah, Mer doesn't do "collectors piece"s, just good old fashion-heavy duty-can't kill them if you try-so go ahead and use it as EDC-steel handles.

Nothing personal Darkman, but until we have a better understanding of your work, the jury is still out. Especially in the age of anonymity with cyberspace. The inverse is even better. If you are as good as you claim, the word would get around that much quicker.
 
Custom work with no pictures? I guess we'll all just send you our bali's for work.

And your other post is to show us all a pic of the "MOD Tachyon" , like the one at the top of the page? Or the half dozen really nice pics that Mike posted with the bamboo/rattan background of the Microtech Tachyon

I've thought about having the guy who made my wedding rings make me a Sterling Silver set of balisong handles. I just want to hear the ring they make....
Plus it would be cool.

A full gold set probably be one of those things that you wouldn't want to be ever latched fully open.

I sure want to see some pics, though...

Second, Your work sounds very intriguing...an all gold bali sounds like one hell of a "collectors peice" to say the least! Do you have any pictures of work you've done? Look forward to hearing more from you...
 
Gold is pretty soft, and weighs like eleventy-billion pounds...uranium would be a good choice too, very sturdy, and gives off a nifty glow in the dark.

But seriously, I guess that would be cool to look at, but that isn't what I buy balisongs for.
 
24K gold is soft and heavy. But 10K or 14K gold is sturdy enough to make knives out of. Gold alloyed knives have existed since the times of the Egyptians.

Sorry, but it's been done. Of course, mine aren't solid gold since they do have MOP inserts and the blades aren't gold.

Pure gold is a very soft material, true. But 14K is pretty tough and 10K is very tough. Think about it this way: many people have gold wedding bands that they've worn every day for decades (yes, I know that for some people these days wedding rings seem disposable, bu they're not supposed to be). I wouldn't suggest a solid gold balisong as a daily carry for a lot of reasons, but it's certainly not impractical, especially if one occationally needs to spread caviar with one's pocket knife.

BTW, I'm glad that I'm not the only one who gets MOD and Microtech confused. Their stuff just looks similar.

Darkman, welcome... but try to lighten up a bit.

More than valid enough to do it, and many of us will of course be glad you took the time out to share it with us. Howver, as stated, most of us use our bali's, and from that perspective, aside from admiration, few of us would find the need to possess such a bali. But you are incorrect in that it hasn't been done. Can't pull the evidence, but I've seen FHM done out of gold alloy before.

That would have helped a great deal in letting us know who you were. We guess we know where to turn to if we ever need to have our bali's enhanced with precious materials.

i'd like to have a solid gold bailsong. the only bad thing is is that i only have a couple of dollars to my name and i can't afford trading in my kidneys. someday i hope to start making my own balisong and maybe a sword here and there.

people...i had no selfish intentions at all and
was somewhat offended by a certian dumbass who
chose to wade right in and just stomp all over me
and trash my well meaning intentions..mr ishtay..

if i took some remarks in the wrong light..
as for the tachy pics..the other guys link covered
them pretty well... agian as im new to balisongs
ive not seen a gold one so if its been done.. it hasnt
been done RIGHT..BECAUSE I DIDNT DO IT... MINE IS COMING...

Good to have another qualified metal worker among us. It is easy to be misunderstood or jumped on here at the forums, some of us are very impatient and take skepticism to an entirely new level. I am very interested in seeing your work here in the future. I do like the Celtic broach on your site. i only ever offered because i enjoy doing things that
make people like what they get when im finished with it...
weather its gold or knifes.. i suspect ill have a niche here
doing a few good things ..there are others here who are also
well talented and i certianly respect what they do as professionals
as well...a good craftsman knows when to say..this is not what i
do well and send the customer to one who does..ill be happy to
do all i can...perhaps one day..i can become a master smith..
