Can any of you folks tell me the date made, blade steel ( someone told me these are 440c ) and if the engraving is factory?

The knife was from 1975 to 1977 time frame, 440C steel and, no, the file work was after the fact and not from Buck. Looks good though.

flat, that model came out in Feb. 1975. Buck began to hide the rocker rivet in 1977. So, Mike is giving you good information. Yes, 440C
blade steel. The engraving is simple but good. As I had my wife examine it. Buck does have factory engravers who are very talented. But this doesn't look like their
work. DM

Nice 501, a very nice knife and good user

Out of my 501’s, my script stamp maroon micarta is the favorite. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for posting it.

That is a lovely knife. I like everything about it. I wish Buck would go back to those Micarta scales and upgraded steel.
