...and it stopped working recently, you might be under warranty depending on the oproblem.
I bought a Canon S1 IS camera a few years ago when they first came out. Nice camera, but a few weeks ago it stopped taking pictures or videos. Everything sounds like it works normally, but nothing shows in the viewfinder and a blank black image gets recorded to the compact flash card.
I figured being as it was out of warranty, being a few years old, I would take it apart and see if anything came loose. Before I did that, I checked the Canon website and found, lo and behold, a service notice pertaining to that exact problem on my camera and also on several other Canon models.
It also states that people experiencing this particular problem will get it repaired to free, and even the shipping is paid for.
I'm currently awaiting a prepaid mailer to send my camera in to their service center.
I've been considering buying amn S3 IS to replace my ailing S1 IS, and I'm glad I checked their website before I did so.... now I won't need to expend cash on a new camera!

Here's a list of the affected camera models:

Camcorders: ZR60, ZR65 MC, ZR70 MC, ZR80, ZR85, ZR90, ELURA 40 MC, ELURA 50
- Digital Cameras A60, A70, A75, A300, A310, S230, SD100, SD110, A40(*), A80(*), A85(*), A95(*), S1 IS(*), S60(*), S200(*), S330(*), S400(*), S410(*), S500(*)

And the url the service notice is at. If you have a Canon digital camera that is in this list with this particular problem, you can call their tech support & they'll get you set up for the repair.

I am lucky in two respects. Canon Canada is 5 minutes away and my Canon digital S10 is so old not to be on the list. :)

I did have to send my Megxon C550 back to Taiwan when the viewfinder and pictures went fuzzy.

This warranty issue is actually related to Sony CCD's. If anyone out there has a digital camera/camcorder that was made by Canon, Sony, Minolta, Nikon, Pentax, or Olympus from March '03 to June '05 you may have a faulty CCD.
They go bad because of glue that breaks down due to heat/cold cycles.

Make sure you contact your manufacturer before trashing your camera if everything seems to work, but you get no picture on your lcd screen (just black, but still with the menu)
