...then finding a knife shop relatively close to home, will doom me for sure.

This place carries...

ESEE
Strider
Boker
Al Mar
Emerson
CRK
Becker
Ka-Bar
ZT
Kershaw
Spyderco
Benchmade
Buck
SOG
TOPS
Victorinox
CRKT
Knives of Alaska

...and a few Im sure I left out.

I went in there to buy a slip joint, and I ended up getting the slip joint...AND... putting an Umnumzaan on lay-away. I told myself that I never needed a knife at that price point, but when I held it in hand and saw the lay-away sign...I couldn't resist. My will power was non-existent at that point.

It's one thing to look at pictures of knives on the internet...it's something totally different to see a certain make and model that you have been drooling over...sitting right in front of your nose.

I have never seen such a vast assortment of Benchmades in one location!!

After I get that CRK paid off...I will be getting an Al Mar. The one I held in my hand, was so buttery smooth in the pivot, that I was almost in shock. I didn't want to put in down!

The only thing that may save me in the end...is their slip joint inventory is quite small in comparison to their modern folders on hand. That is just a guess. It probably won't make a bit of difference.

Oh well...it's only money, right? :D

I think this is one of the saving factors that i've been able to stick to my budget, of course now that i might be moving to Irvine/costa mesa doesnt help either

I take my wife with me when I look at knives. She's the cool voice of reason when my eyes start glazing over and I start drooling. :D

Funny. Not a lot of good knives in my small town. The other day, I went in to look at fishing reels. I bought a fishing reel, then noticed a CS Recon 1 folder with a plain edge and the clip point. I carried the original Recon 1 for a decade (still going strong).

I did not need the folder. I have my bases covered for fixed blades and a few folders that work. But the Triad Lock and the light, linerless g10 drew me in.

I was doomed by the fact that I happened to have extra cash in my pocket to cover it and the reel (left over from a recent vacation trip).

What would be even worse, is if this store was right around the corner, but being as how Houston is such a large city, it still took me 30 minutes (on the freeway) to get there and it is still on the same side of town where I live. Even if it were across town and a good hour drive, I would still be doomed.

When I was looking at the ESEE's...which consisted mostly of Izulas, ESEE 3's, 4's, 5's, 6's...what did I see on the lower shelf?........a freaking JUNGLAS!!! In stock, right there in front of me. I didn't bother to ask if I could look at it. I need a chopper like I need another, well...knife, LMAO!!!!!! I had no idea they were that BIG!!

There were two full glass cases with nothing but Benchmades. Each case had four shelves and they were stacked in there box to box.

He told me the CRK folders he gets in, are lucky to last three days in the case. I was in the right place at the right time on that deal. He had three fixed blades left.

Spyderco...one full case...four shelves high.

This is just what I remember. The owner and myself talked in length about different steels and sharpening methods as well as other things, so I didn't spend the entire time drooling all over the glass. He also showed me his stock in DMT bench stones, Japanese stones, Lansky systems, etc. He didn't have any Edgepro or Wicked Edge systems...that I noticed.

I remember seeing Kanetsune, Mercworx...

Geez...yeah, I'm screwed. LOL!

[EDIT] oh yeah...a full case of nothing but SAKS. I had no idea there were that many choices. Some of them are rather large. I think of SAKS ... I think of your old style small ones with all the gadgets. Some of these were as big as a regular folder.

If this place carried Case, GEC, Queen, Canal St. or any of the other higher end production slip joints...I would be totally f----d.

Your gonna love that Umnumzaan my friend.

That's why I bought it!!

What screwed me was being able to actually hold it in my hand. It's easy to look at a picture and talk yourself out of it, but quite the contrary when you can caress and fondle the object of your desires....LMAO!!!

AFAIK...online retailers don't do lay-away. In that regard, I always felt that a CRK was out of my reach as coming up with that kind of cabbage at one time can be a bit tough. Lay-away changes everything.

Anyway...

Yes, that Umnum is a sweet knife. It took me about 2seconds to think about whether I wanted it or not.
