Hey all,

I have used a GB 2 for about a month now and it is an incredible knife IMO. I love everything about it. Except maybe that the lock is a bit of a PITA, but not a big issue.

I have about a dozen American, Chinese, Italian and Japanese Spydercos, and the Taiwanese GB2 blows them all away IME. Better fit and finish and just a rock solid and beautiful knife.

Ok, I don’t see the point in buying another GB2 unless I lose mine, so what else in the Spyderco lineup would be a worthy addition?

I have a Tenacious, Endura 4, a few Salts, PM3, Manix, Native 5, etc.

I am leaning towards another Taichung knife and won’t spend over $200. No serrations or FRN (have lots) and ideally a 3.25-3.75” blade in CF or G10. No backlocks either and even though I love M4, a steel that is hard but is a bit more corrosion resistant would be perfect.

Any ideas?

Sounds like a Southard if you can still find them. CTS-204P, about 3.5”, G10 and titanium and Taichung.

If not stuck on Taichung, try a Shaman.

Mantra. Lot of blade in small package, great steel. My top three of my 15 Spydercos.

Of my 4 non-stainless steels, this one is the most resistant to corrosion.

The Advocate would be a good option. It's even designed by Mr. Bradley! Sporting some M4 as well so even the steel is the same.

Without doing a little googling I can't remember if it's Taichung or Golden made, but either way it's a solid bet.

+1 for Mantra. Excellent fit and finish, good action, and perfect size for EDC. I know you said you weren't crazy about M4 steel but its such a good knife. Very underrated.

I think the Chaparral is a nice compliment to the GB2.

Also, the Vallotton is a beautifully made Tai Chung large folder.

If it was me Ide go with something in a different size range. Either a PM3 or a Military. Maybe a Police 4 in K390

I really want to pick up a GB but so many people complain about the lock I just can't make myself do it when I have so many other fantastic knives that the lock is great, including my BM's. The GB is one beautiful knife though........

I don't really get the complaints about the lock though.
Sure it is not a fidget knife to constantly lock and unlock / open and close, but I never had an issue with disengaging the lock when pressing the side of my thumb in between the liner instead of trying to move the liner lock itself sideways.
But that is just me.
I would vote for the advocate as your next knife, very similar in some aspects, yet very different at the same time.

Thanks for the advise all. Lots of great options.

Unfortunately I now have about a 1/2 dozen more Spydercos I want. :p

Mantra or Air for a lighter carry.
Advocate for a comparable carry.
GB1 for a slightly heavier carry.
