Exactly like a forced patina.
do it! it improves the finish. Opinel work best.
recipe:
wash off any oils
mix
-teaspoon Mustard
-half teaspoon juiced onion (just the juice! not whole onion pieces)
-a few drops vinegar
apply evenly to blade. You get a distinctive smell like blood/iron (around 1 minute). wash thoroughly, oil. Voilá!
more onion= blueish
more mustard= goldish brown
