If I sharpen my JYD II, will I mess up the pattern? Either with a sharpmaker I've ordered, or with a stone?

I assume you mean on the composite JYD II (the one with a blade made of two different steel types).

If you hit the stones at too shallow an angle you will scratch the blade, thus making it less pretty. If I remember correctly the edge steel has been surface treated to make it a little darker, and that could potentially be worn off.
However, other than a few scratches you would have to purposefully rub it off with sandpaper or your sharpening stones to do any real damage.

Using the sharpmaker as intended should cause no problems, it's a pretty simple system. Just keep a steady hand and you'll do fine.
