If I want a 18dps edge what should I set my WE arms to?

Been thinking about this off and on for a while now and hope it hasn't already been answered but if it has please direct me to the answer.

Situation, I have knife X that the secondary edge is sharpened at a lower angle than what I want in the end. (I usually like to end up with 18dps w/a 20dps microbevel) At what degree should I set my Wicked Edge arms initially? If I put the stone on the current edge and use my angle block and set it to 18degrees it changes as the shoulder gets sharpened away so by the time I hit the actual edge it's not at 18 anymore.. Should I set it at ~17 to account for the shoulder or should I be readjusting my angle all the time? Or something else??

Any insight is appreciated and hopefully I'm being clear.

thanks,

Greg

cant figure it exactly with that information - its going to depend on thickness at the secondary bevel, how far the blade edge is from the base, how much vertical difference between the apex and secondary bevel, etc.

I did a quick sketch in CAD, and with some reasonable assumptions based on the knife in my pocket and rough dimensions on the WE, its going to be closer to 17.9, or 17.85 degrees. but if you want your final edge at 18 exactly - your going to have to take off some shoulder, reset your angle, and repeat until you get to the apex.

or do some very precise measuring and drawing.

if you start at 18, adn dont adjust - you will probbaly end up somewhere around 18.1 degrees if you are workign with a reasonably 'normal' size EDC type knife
