I just had a thought, and I figured that before it withered up and died of loneliness in my head

I would ask your opinions. If I was to carry both a Commander AND a Specwar tanto, and only one blade was to have the serrations, which one should I get serrated? This is a lot of fun, but I do want to make a decision in the next day or so before all the blades sell out from Botach(provided I hear that they aren't fake Emersons.)

get a plain commander and a socfk instead of a specwar. spend some time to save for the socfk while you hunt one down (half the fun)
the socfk is my second favorite to the commander. Another alternative to the specwar is the raven-same blade, different handles.
but the socfk is great, and it is waved!

Mmmmmmm

If I could only have two (parish the thought) . . . .

I would probably go with a Mini CQC7A, "Satin" finish, plain edged, Black G10 and a Commander, "Satin", Plain edged, Black G10. If one had to be serrated, it would be the Commander.

This would give you a fighter and a utility set. In the spirit of getting the most "bang for your buck", the mini CQC7A described above could be used as a travel knife on Airlines with the Commander stowed in your luggage.

Both can be bought from Botach for just over $200 if you catch them while their still on sale.

I would take the serrations on the straight edged blade. On the Commander, they sit up in the curve, making it harder to use them if you are cutting something on a flat surface. Picture a rope lying flat on a table top, and trying to cut through it with a stragiht edge as opposed to the concave part of the Commander. You get more contact with the straight edge.

Not a huge difference, but if one HAD to be serrated, I would put them on the straighter edge. Serrations on either will not effect it's defensive use.

In all honesty, I think the serrated sections on most of the knives are too short to be really functional anyway, especially on the ones with guards built into the handle, interferring with the forward stroke. I don't think the Raven handle interfers as much.

But, most everyone here has much more experience than I, so I may be way off base.
