If I was to give it all away.. and leave only history behind

Mild reflection today.. that if I had to give all my pocket knives away including a buck 373, a case medium stockman in CV, babybutterbean.. etc. I would only end up keeping my victorinox pioneer to which I removed the steel piece that held the keyring. Not the best steel, or the best minimalist setup, or even the lightest in my pocket but in my humble opinion the best overall pocket knife. It has got me through a lot at work and helped me with projects at home. So if someone was to find someday the knife that I carried for a long time and left to history, I think for now it would be the victorinox pioneer engraved with my 3 initials.. What would yours be?

I usually carry pioneers too. I probably have 5 or 6 alox variations. While not as folksy or historical as the old patterns, they are hard to beat for utility.

That´s actually a tough question... I thought about this some times. I somehow always come down to my GEC #66 Serpentine Jack.

Fits just great in pocket and in hand.

But leaving the rest of my knives behind would be a hard experience in any way.

This was a gift from my wife to me on our wedding day. I gave all my groomsmen the SAK fisherman models, but I got The Champ. This one gets buried with me.

Nice thread.

Man, I don't know. I would probably make sure all of my family and friends had some good knives. It would be a fixed blade to take for the final journey, maybe my Gossman Kephart.

If I could keep only one pocket knife, it would be my bark ram's horn Tidioute #53 Cuban Stockman.

But . . . if I posted tomorrow, it might be a different knife! Much too hard a question to answer definitively.

It would be tough! But if I had to choose only one to keep, it would be my modest case stockman in yellow delrin. It will do anything I could ever ask a pocketknife to do!

I'm right there with ya. If I had to keep just one, it would be the Vic Pioneer, or maybe the smaller Cadet. Great knives!

I would have a hard time completely letting go of my favorite GECs, and other SAKs, but the Pioneer is just about the perfect slipjoint pocket knife.

Based on that criteria it'd be my red Vic Farmer. I carry other knives but they get rotated a bit - the Farmer is always with me and gets used just about every day for something or the other. I've also filed off the nub for the keyring to make it more comfortable in use. ;)

P.S. Jeff, that bark rams horn #53 is without a doubt one of the prettiest knives I've ever seen!

I've given away all my knives that don't hold personal meaning. The only ones I have left are gifts I've received (tc barlow, opinel from Carl, Otter from Andi), special knives I plan on giving to special people (my tc barlow to my son, Peanut's peanut), or knives I've had forever/man something to me (knife like my dad's I carried in high school, the Imperial-second knife I ever owned and the brand new one I found recently on eBay).

So, it would be extremely hard for me to give up my knives, because the ones I have all mean something. But, I'd pick.......well, I don't know. Probably Kinsey's peanut, as it is really the only irreplaceable one. In the end, they are just possessions.

The one that speaks to my personal history is my TC Barlow. Not been out of my pocket since it was gifted to me. Nicest knife I've ever had.

I just re-ordered a Remington #R314 Bullet Stockman, with the ugly red-orange scales. I sold one a couple years ago, and I've missed it ever since. I love the serpentine handle shape, but I'd gotten tired of it and sold off a bunch of my Stockman patterns. The one I missed the most was that one.

Here's a pic from the auction I bought:

The other knife with a lot of history is my Victorinox Huntsman.

Those were particularly fine stockman knives that Camillus made under the Remington brand. I treasure mine, ugly covers and all. It is one of my favorites. Elliott has one that he liked so much that he had new brown jigged bone covers made for it.

Mine still has the gosh covers.

Gosh a tough situation. But of the traditionals i have I would select the 92 Eureka Jack due to it's spear/coping blade combo. It's more robust than the Pemberton and it's two blades trumps the 55 and 85 EO for usability.
