If it looks like I'm posting alot, I am! I'm at home recovering from hernia surgery. So, for the next 2 weeks I'm out of work with little to do. Please bear with me.

Thanks,

hehe when i was out of work i was a posting maniac on a few forums :p...but hey enjoy ya time off, might as well do it talkin about nice pointies ;).

Hope you have a speedy recovery!

In the meantime, keep posting those Crains! Actually, I'd love to hear more about him...have you ever met Jack? His work is so interesting and so rare (can't say I know too many people who own a Crain)...I'd love to get one a LSS one of these days...does he still make them??

Post all you want,
Just don't don't follow the way of
The Might Goat,
or we'll all regret it. :barf:

... a speedy recovery, J.P.

BTW ... had to LOL, WalkingMan. My first thought when I saw the title "posting alot" was ... "TheMightyGoat"!!?!?? (Just imagine what the story would probably be if "Goat" came here tellin' us he'd just had hernia surgery! )

join the club... nothing better to do that post on BFC? must be working on recovery.

I had an ingrown toenail fixed on wednesday, I go back to work on the 5th... spent most of the last few days on the couch watching tv and movies, on the comp, or the 3hrs I got out of the house yesterday to stand and visit at my local B&M. Hurts like hell to walk as my sandles hit right on the nerve, but standing is no problem.

killed my toe on tuesday by dropping a 100lbs 15' pole(threw the last 4' into the 12' roll of tarp fabric, and it wasn't a thick enough roll). last 4 feet bounced off the floor and then my foot. No damage to my foot other than bleeding from the ingrown(no cracked nail, or broken bones... nothing).

Hey RL,
I met Jack Crain 13 years ago when I was 14 and have been in touch with him ever since. I got my first Crain, a Life Support System 2 from him in 1992. I designed a knife which he built for me in 2002, and I just recently had him build me a Life Support System Hunter with a few changes from the standard style. My mother has a Crain from 1982, a small skinner with antler handle. I've also ordered other things like replacement butt caps for my hollow handles knives, lapel pins, things like that.

He's a great guy, real personable and makes the best knives. I got to play with all the real knives from "Predator", "Commando" "Die Hard" etc. when I met him in Louisiana. It was fantastic holding Arnolds Predator Machete from the film.

He does still make knives, in my experience it takes abround 8 or 9 months for orders to get filled.

The best way to conatct him is through e-mail, his website is www.crainknives.com

His secretary Linda may contact you. He gets hundres of e-mails and phone calls every day, so he couldn't get any work done as he was always trying to answer peoples letters. Now that Linda is handling the e-mails he's back filling orders full time.

Another thing to remember is that he is a custom knifemaker, he makes alot more than what you see on his sight.

Hope this helps, and here's all of my Crains together...and one that I made (the little one)...

Jared,

Yes, thanks...that's very helpful!

I may e-mail you with some additional questions..if that's ok??

Very nice knives--nice and clean, just the way I like 'em. I especially like the one on the left.

Thanks Zenghost, that's the one I designed! Here's a better picture of it with a custom Chris Kravitt sheath...

Those are nice knives you have there Place. That last one looks like a real slicer. Don't worry about posting alot. I have been sick before and spending the day on BFC seems to pass the time great and take your mind off any pain that you amy be in.

BTW, he did the Commando knife as well, didnt he? That is one big knife also.

Cereberus

Yeah, he did the Commando knife which is the Life Support System 1, the bigger brother to my LSS 2. My LSS2 has a 7 1/2" blade, the LSS 1 as seen in "Commando has a 9" blade. Built like a tank.

You did a great job on the design--I'm a sucker for a full flat grind, especially in that type of profile.

For a Community bound thread (because of no knife content), you guys have done will fitting it in. :) As I started reading, my fingers wwere itching with anticipation, begging the body to "move the thread...move the thread...move the thread..."

Placeknives: Get well soon! :)

Get well soon. Maybe you can put your grinder on a tv tray. Might get messy, but it's better than Oprah! :D

Love the LSS!
