The United States Army has purchased a small number of Vietnam Tomahawks with our new Next Generation synthetic handle for official testing at the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. This is where EVERY piece of gear on the soldier's basic load goes to get dropped, vibrated, heated-up, immersed in salt water, blown up, shot up, thrown, and generally, tested to failure.
During the development of our new Next Generation synthetic handle, we HAD TO BE SURE that it would NOT loosen or break on the Vietnam Tomahawk.
We made an extremely long two-handed handle to generate torque way beyond whatever the 14" handle could generate, machined the eye for a precision fit, machined the handle for a precision fit, used a hydraulic press, and sent Kevin outside.
Here were the results...
60 seconds...no loosening, no breaking.
Here's what it looks like...machined eye and machined handle stem
The head is pressed on with a hydraulic press and is waiting for the hydraulic pressed wedge...
A perfect fit...and it ain't comin' off! (We hope
)
And it will be available to our commercial market VERY soon!!! Stay tuned.
PS...the handle in these pics was for the test. The final version is properly machined with contours, knurling, and hatching. VERRRRRY much like our hickory handle in terms of symmetry and dimension.
