How would the Earth look like if it had a ring system like Saturn?

I thought we were building rings of space debris? Any guesses as to when we will be readily able to at least see the rings of satellites and garbage at night?

Interesting video.

It would be interesting to see what the night sky would look like if we had more than one moon.

Cool, I guess given their equatorial location rings would have provided a very good navigation aid to sailors at least in regards to latitude.

Look here brother, who you jivin' with that Cosmik Debris?

Cool stuff.

We tend to think that from our particular geographic perspective, "up" is always a line perpendicular to the ground we are standing on.

But those rings reveal a different perspective on what constitutes "up".

And reminds us that there is no true "up" or "down" in the universe.

Whack.

i read at one point their were debris rings around the earth from asteroid strikes...that was from high school science books we had to read, be cool if we still had em.

I'm waiting for the obligatory joke about the rings around Uranus.

Not so cool if you think about what happened to those rings. Most of the debris would have burned up as it de-orbited, but the big ones ... oops! Splat!

You know, I'm not so good with commitment, so I think I would rather not give earth a ring just yet.

I prefer to keep my options open. Earth is nice, but I hear Mercury is pretty hot too. Same temperature as Australia, apparently.
